KL Rahul is one of India's top opening batsmen of the upcoming generation. Rahul made his first-class debut for Karnataka and later played for India in the Under-19 World Cup in 2010. After returning in the 2012-13 season, he put himself in contention for the most incredible honour, an India Test cap, thanks to a string of solid performances that saw him become the season's leading run-getter.
Rahul received a lot of attention during the IPL auction and was ultimately purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 1 crore (about US$ 166,000) back in the 2014 season. He currently is the captain of Lucknow SuperGiants. In the long format, some prestigious personalities in Indian cricket have been amazed by his technique and effort. With a successful IPL season in 2013, he qualified for the Indian ODI and T20 squad that toured Zimbabwe. He became the first batter from India to record a century on debut in 50-over cricket.
In his early career days, Rahul Dravid mentored KL Rahul. He shares more than just his first name with the Indian icon; the two batting technicians also share traits like steadfast resistance, a compact, airtight technique, and unwavering attention at the crease. He is a promising player for India's long and challenging overseas campaign and wants to establish his position as a long-term option for India as a top Test opener.
In January 2022, KL Rahul captained India in the second test match against South Africa. He became the 34th Test captain of India. In his captaincy debut he scored a half century. However, he couldn’t win the match and India lost against South Africa. He also captained India in an ODI against South Africa and became the 26th ODI Indian captain. In February, 2022, K L Rahul completed 6000 runs in international cricket. Unfortunately, due to hamstring and groin injuries he was left out of the subsequent tours of West Indies and South Africa in the following months. He came back as captain once again in June 2022 during India's tour of Zimbabwe. He failed to score big runs during his tenure as captain. In February 2023, BCCI sacked his vice-captaincy.
K L Rahul was purchased by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 17.00 crores in IPL auction. On April 16, 2022, Rahul scored his first century for LSG. He scored 103* runs off 60 balls against Mumbai Indians. He became the only and first player to score centuries in the 100th IPL match. Eight days later he once again scored a century against the same opposition.

In the 2010–11 cricket season, Rahul made his first-class debut for Karnataka. He competed for Team India at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup and scored 143 runs during the same season. In 2013, he made his Indian Premier League debut with Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was the second-highest scorer in the domestic league in 2013–14 with 1,033 first-class runs.
On Boxing Day 2014 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rahul played in his first Test match. In 2016, he was selected for the team that will tour Zimbabwe. He played his first One Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club, where he hit an undefeated 100*(115). He became the first player from India to score a century in an ODI. He was selected for India's World Cup of Cricket squad in April 2019. Rahul made 57 runs and contributed to a 136-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma in the world cup's opening match against Pakistan. KL hit 112 runs in the last league match against Sri Lanka, marking his first World Cup hundred.
Since the 2015 World Cup, his success in limited-overs cricket has increased dramatically. He has struggled to establish himself in the ODI game, mainly because of an established top-order and a resultant inability to understand his role in the middle-order, despite scoring a hundred in the T20I format and earning himself a nine-figure IPL paycheque. He had struggled at the number 4 position on numerous occasions. Still, in the 2019 IPL, he established himself as a mature accumulator in the middle order with his hitting skills and being one of the greatest run scorers in the competition.
Rahul is a Right-handed batsman who can occasionally do wicket-keeping as well. As a flexible batsman, he can bat in many ways. In ODIs, he currently bats in the middle order for India. He is the opening batsman in T20Is and Tests format.
In the 2016 season of IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore, he finished as the 11th highest run-scorer and RCB's third, with 397 runs from 14 matches. He had a successful career in the IPL tournament in the next few seasons. He also captained Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 season. In 2022, he was drafted by Lucknow Super Giants as their captain. He became the first and only player to score a century in one's 100th IPL match.

KL Rahul is among the most highly rated opening batsmen in India currently. He is naturally an aggressive batsman who can switch the gears according to the situation. He has been terrific in the last couple of IPLs. In the T20 format, he is popular for batting with the technique and the ability to score runs with traditional battings shots. He became the first Indian cricketer to score a century in his ODI debut.
In his debut in the World Cup in 2019, Rahul ended up scoring 361 runs with 2 fifties and 1 hundred in the tournament. He finished as India’s third highest run scorer in the tournament after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Even though he didn’t score well lately and was removed from the post of vice-captain of team India, he has the potential to come back and score aggressively in the upcoming IPL 2023. His IPL scores have always been impressive. Hopefully, his injuries will not stop him from scoring good runs.
