Temba Bavuma stats or his past performances may not show him as a brilliant cricket player, but despite his limitations, he has become a valuable player for his team. He is the first black African specialist batsman chosen for South Africa's Test squad. As a wicketkeeper-batsman and medium-pacer, he has a strong defence that becomes challenging to dislodge. Without the advantage of height or power, his game relies on skill and patience.
In March 2021, Bavuma took over as the limited-overs skipper amidst a leadership reshuffle. Since his debut against India at Mohali in September 2019, he has participated in 25 of the 42 Twenty20 Internationals that the Proteas have played. However, in 24 T20Is, he has maintained a strike rate and average of 26.76 and 120.60, respectively. Since his T20I debut, Temba Bavuma's highest score has led him to accomplish a significantly higher average, scoring rate, and several boundaries for South Africa. Some of them are David Miller (562), Quinton de Kock (993), Rassie van der Dussen (777), Reeza Hendricks (697), Aiden Markram (621), and David Miller (621). Bavuma has opened or batted at number three in 22 of his 24 T20I innings thus far, providing a better opportunity to take advantage of the field restriction overs, but that still stands.
Known for his maturity and composure, Bavuma's captaincy will be evaluated by how well he inspires his team and whether the team he leads will succeed. Who knows if he might be breaking the jinx by being the first Black skipper to win an ICC tournament, a goal that has eluded white captains despite numerous attempts.

In 2008, Bavuma made his first-class debut for Gauteng under the guidance of Geoffrey Toyana, a former South African first-class cricketer. After playing with Lions for three seasons and giving consistent performances, he was made the team's vice-captain in 2013.
Bavuma finally received a chance to play for the national team after placing high on the list of run-scorers for multiple seasons when he was selected for the squad for the West Indies Test series before the end of 2014. Bavuma made a breakthrough during the home series against England in late 2015 and early 2016 by securing his spot in the squad with a century in Cape Town.
After that, Temba Bavuma’s stats barely stood out and simply achieved a reasonable average. Bavuma has struggled to progress, as his career graph has remained flat. He now only has one Test hundred, and his average is in the low 30s. There is a lot of promise there, even though his career graph hasn't yet taken the intended upward swing. The management still has faith in him as he was selected as the vice-captain of the Test team.
His performance in international cricket has been ordinary. Temba Bavuma's highest score in T20 is 72 with an average of 26.72 considering his participation in 25 T20I matches. He has zero centuries in international T20 cricket.

If Temba Bavuma wants his team to succeed in the ICC T20I, he must enhance his form. He has opened in 7 of the 13 T20Is that he has played in, and he performed fairly impressively in the position in the T20Is last year against England. But he has always struggled as a T20 skipper. His eligibility to serve as captain is still unanswered.
So, if you want to bet on Temba Bavuma as the highest scorer in the ICC T20I, the chances may not be very high. Considering Temba Bavuma’s stats and performances since the beginning of his career, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be able to lead the team.
That said, he’s hit a century before, and our experts at Fun88 think you should keep an eye on his performances this year.
