Mohammed Shami signed with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011. He played a single match for KKR and did not play in IPL till 2013. He played only three games for KKR in 2013. In IPL 2014 auction, Shami was signed by Delhi Daredevils. He played in 12 out of 14 matches during the 2014 season and took seven wickets. The following season, he took 20 wickets, the best return of his career. During the season, he allowed only five runs during a super over against Mumbai Indians.
In the history of IPL, a single-digit score was defended in a super over for the first time. This earned Shami praise for precise yorkers under pressure. He became the fourth bowler in Punjab XI's history to take 50 wickets for Punjab. In the 2022 IPL auction, Gujarat Titans purchased Shami for Rs 6.25 crores. Shami is a right-arm fast bowler who can move the ball off the seam and use the swing, including reverse swing, to move the ball both ways. He can bowl persistently at around 140 km/h (87 mph). His best bowling speed was 153.2 km/h against Australia in 2014. Shami's skills lie in his wrist, with his smooth run-up and action. Earlier, he was accused of straying the leg, too, but now he has shifted his line of attack. When he bowls on the pitch, he really does bowl on the track. His ability to take wickets and reverse swing bowling make him one of the world's most lethal bowlers, which is why he has been described as 'unplayable' at times, regardless of the formats. Shami's ability to bowl yorkers continuously at much-needed times has been discussed and praised by several former cricketers and critics. His wrist is firmly placed at the point of delivery, and his slightly split fingers come down so straight that the seam invariably comes out bolt upright.

One of the best India seam bowlers, Mohammed Shami, was bought by Gujarat Titans for INR 6.25 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Mohammed Shami revived his T20 career with some brilliant performances. Shami led the PBKS pace attack after Punjab Kings picked him up for a hefty price tag of INR 4.8 crore at the 2019 Player Auction. He has the skills to be effective at the start of the innings and in the death overs. Shami’s progress has been terrific, and he is now a complete bowler-batsman so opponents should be cautious when facing him. He had a fine run in 2019 and finished the season as KXIP’s highest wicket-taker with 19 wickets from 14 games. His bowling got even better in the 2020 season, where he defended six runs in a super-over through his incredible consistency and struck early with the new ball for PBKS throughout the 13th edition. This season Shami is all set to don the Gujarat Titans jersey, and his experience with the new ball will be vital.
