Mahmudullah was the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a century in a World Cup match against . During the 2007 World Cup, he scored 103 against England at the Adelaide Oval, which helped Bangladesh reach the knockout stage for the first time. Mahmudullah debuted in an ODI against Sri Lanka and made an impact by picking up two wickets and scoring 36 runs, but the effort was not enough to win the game. He was quickly picked to play in Kenya and the later, where he performed well again but was briefly dropped from the team in 2008; however, he worked his way back with great performances in Bangladesh cricket.
The right-handed batsman made his debut in 2007 and has played 49 Tests, 188 ODI, AND 87 T20I, in which he has racked up 2764, 4070, and 1474 runs, respectively, which includes 7 centuries and 150 wickets.
Mahmudullah led Bangladesh in runs and contributed the most to his team's success in the 2015 World Cup. He proved to be their best batsman who managed to score 128 against . Overall, he scored 365 runs and helped his team qualify for the quarter-finals. Mahmudullah saw a turning point in his cricketing career, with a string of strong performances after first playing in the tournament. He is an important figure in Bangladesh's batting lineup and provides stability to the team. Mahmudullah is a seasoned all-rounder who bats in the middle order and bowls a tidy off-spin. In late 2012, Mahmudullah was the star who derailed West Indies to their first ODI series defeat in Bangladesh. However, the later year got worse as he couldn't find his form for five months and was even dropped from the Asia Cup 2014, but eventually, he improved his game and thus proved himself as a preferred choice for his team again.
Before playing in the U15 ACC tournament, Mahmudullah played in the 2004 U19 World Cup in Bangladesh, and a year later, he made his first-class debut for Bangladesh A and spent part of the year in the MCC Young Cricketers in the 2005-2006 season.
Mahmudullah debuted his ODI career in 2007 and was labelled a limited-over specialist. In 2009, he created an eight-wicket haul on his Test debut against West Indies, which led him to a high batting average in the ODI tri-series against India and Sri Lanka. One of Mahmudullah's most telling contributions so far was the 159 runs he made against West Indies in the Bangladesh One-Day International series in 2012. The next few years weren't successful, but after a reasonable performance against Zimbabwe, he received a spot in the Indian World Cup team and confirmed his place. Mahmudullah, at number 7 on the list, is a prolific ODI batsman who has been featured in the Cricket World cup and was named as the vice-captain of Bangladesh Cricket after his performance in the World Cup.
Mahmudullah's T20 world cup performance was exemplary; he led Bangladesh in runs and contributed the most to his team's success in the 2015 world cup. He was the highest run-getter for Bangladesh and thus proved to be their best batsman in the series. His century knocked England out of the tournament and backed it up with another century, 128 against New Zealand. He scored 365 runs in seven innings and helped his team reach the quarters, where they lost to India.

Mahmudullah – who has been acting as a finisher for the past three to four years – can stabilise the innings by batting up the order. As a Bangladesh all-round, he is one of the most experienced players in international cricket and has a lot of experience at the top level. He has played 76 matches, scored 1250 runs with an economy rate of 7.25, and taken 31 wickets in T20I.
