Babar Azam is a top-order batsman with a lot of temperament and elegance. He became one of the most significant players for within two to three years of joining the team, and he was given command of the team in all formats.
In 2019, he made his debut in the Cricket World Cup, and in the match against New Zealand, Azam reached 3,000 runs in ODIs for Pakistan in the shortest time possible—in terms of innings. He also made his tenth ODI century in the same game, reaching 101 not out as Pakistan defeated the opposition by six wickets. With this century, he made history by becoming the first middle-order Pakistani batsman in 32 years to score a century in a World Cup match.
Azam has successfully managed to prove himself as a batsman for all formats. Babar Azam’s career started in a world championship for under-15 in 2008. Then, he competed in two under-19 World Cups in 2008 and 2010, when he scored the maximum runs for his team. Azam had the distinction of consistently scoring the most in domestic youth cricket. He received a call-up to the national team in 2015 and made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe. His three consecutive ODI hundreds against the West Indies earned him a test debut in the following Test series.
Over the years that followed, Azam rose to prominence as Pakistan’s most well-known cricketer, one of the top batsmen in the world, and by far the best batsman in the country. He is currently the second fastest player to 2000 ODI runs and the second quickest to 1000 T20I runs. Even though he still has a lot of his career ahead of him, he is one of Pakistan’s all-time best batsmen.
However, he does not have a reputation for being one of the game’s mature thinkers. Despite his captaincy showing contemporary progressive thinking, he is still learning on the job.
His performance in international cricket has been incredible across all formats. He is the third-fastest Pakistani batsman to reach 1000 runs in ODI cricket (21 innings).
